About me
Colombian artist from Bogotá (b. 1976), lives and works in Valencia, Spain.
His work creates seamless transits between sculptural and graphic dimensions, crossbreeding -in many cases- digital and traditional techniques.
His visual and conceptual concerns focus on the human figure. The body is understood as "network" of forces and experiences: as a territorial transparency where Myth and Science are intertwined, open therefore to deconstruction and Decolonial Discourse.
His art is nurtured by ancient anatomy, botanical and alchemical books and codices, blended with constant quotes to modern art movements. In particular, his art references the cubist appropriation of African Art (and other ancient cultures) that redefined the modern art concept of “primitiveness” and also, the surrealist “diving” into the rational colonization of unconscious Otherness.
His mixed media and "Digital Codices" are the playground where allegories and anachronistic iconography are playfully put into tension; in them, the humorous and the tragic cohabit. His project "Box Drawings" , are layered drawing structures that create "volumetric drawings" , where overlapping layers of graphic works create new dimensions in the physical and in the semantics of the image.
In his work, the classic and the modernism, the pre-hispanic art and digital "techniques", are often contrasted, exalted and dramatized while gravitating around questions about time, material finitude, colonization, art history and the cultural relativity of aesthetics.
