About me
I am Australian but I live and work in France. I have been painting and exhibiting for about 30 years. One of my favourite quotes is from Charles Bukowski. He said: "I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our education system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us."
There is a scene in a book, perhaps One Hundred Years Of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, where a woman is hanging clothes on the line. Yellow butterflies descend mysteriously upon her and carry her away, up into the sky. No explanation is given and we never hear of her again. I hope my work has an air of that kind of "magical realism".
The artist's position in society is like that of the "wise fool". This wise fool lives on the edge of the society and injects a kind of cognitive dissonance back into its centre, to keep it from stagnating into blind conservatism.
"To go mad", said Philip K. Dick, "is sometimes the perfect response to reality".

Work / Education
I have a Phd in Visual Art. I taught painting at university for 11 years but now I've stopped and I just paint.
Sometimes I make some digital prints.
I've worked as a cook, a dishwasher, a cleaner, a furniture removalist, a barman, an actor and a private detective.
Having a regular job is so soul destroying that I get sick just thinking about it.
