Description
About me
Over the years I have never managed to fully stay devoted to one interest or occupation. I studied graphic arts and practised etching and lithography. I had a lingering fascination for computer programming that led me to a job as a frontend developer, and to do my own software projects on the side. At the same time I played bass guitar in the 1980s, tenor saxophone in the 1990s and made techno music in the 2000s.
I took me a long time to realise that the way for me is to combine all these interests and to see them as part of one big project. So the paintings shown here are often based on image manipulation on the computer, created with the help of custom written software tools, or influenced by moods and repetitions in electronic music pieces.
Work / Education
I studied graphic arts at 'Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht' (HKU) in the city of Utrecht, the Netherlands, where I graduated in 1990. After my study I moved to Amsterdam and shared a collective print shop and art studio called Thoets (www.thoets.nl) with seven fellow artists. These days I paint in my own studio.
Next to drawing and painting I work as a frontend Developer at the Dutch branch of Digitas in Amsterdam.
