Description
About me
Liu Wan Ching, Celia (Chinese: 廖尹呈) is a Hong Kong art follower.
She does not declare herself as an artist. Instead, she follows art as a belief.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Liu earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (2017) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and spent one year as a visiting student at University of Helsinki. In FInland, she majored in Gender Studies to enrich her works on gender and sexuality issues. She joined the first exhibition at the age of 11. It was a yearly group exhibition held by Lo Fung Art Gallery in Hong Kong City Hall. Lo Fung Art Gallery is the most well-known art academy for children in Hong Kong where she learnt the academic style of drawing and painting since she was 6. Again in 2012, two of her drawings were featured in the same exhibition. In 2017, she was part of the group exhibition <Nothing's gonna change my love for you> in Hong Kong, which features her graduation work against contemporary artist Jeff Koons <Humanity Celebration>. She has worked as an art ambassador for Hong Kong Government and Hong Kong Art Gallery Association and is currently in Seoul working for an online art gallery BBuzzArt.
After receiving over 10 years of academic drawing and painting, Liu chose to stop using them as her major medium. Following the history of contemporary art, she explores the possibility of mixed media and focuses on feminist art. Her favorite subject matter is condom. Her style is ironic, critical and visually powerful.
Liu is also an active player in the theater scene. In 2013, she translated and directed the famous British full-length play <The Pillowman> and got interviewed by a local newspaper Hong Kong Economic Journal. The following year, she wrote the script <Afterwards> about her birth and directed the performance with showcases in public theaters. In 2015, she led the international team in Finland for the show <Nights in Twin Peaks> on Helsinki's biggest stage GLORIA.
