  • How do I pack and send my work?
    Jan 11, 2018

Important: Please ensure that your painting is completely dry before shipment. BBuzzArt is not responsible for any damages arising from hasty shipment.
Avoid direct contact by using cotton gloves, and do not assert excessive pressure when packing your artwork.

    Paintings Smaller than 48’’ x 48’’

    1. Wrap the painting in archival tissue paper, avoiding direct contact. Fold four 8’’ x 8’’ square pieces of the same paper into triangular pockets, and wrap the painting corners.
    2. Tape the paper corners to a foam board or thick cardboard, and wrap with plastic sheeting or place in a waterproof plastic bag. Tape all openings, and wrap twice with bubble wrap.
    3. Sandwich your artwork between 2 pieces of foam board. The foam board should be approximately 2-3 inches bigger than the wrapped artwork, and securely taped together.
    4. Place the wrapped painting into a cardboard box that is 3 inches wider on all sides. Fill empty spaces with bubble wrap, and seal the box in an H-formation.
    5. Tape the shipping label onto the box using clear tape, and mark “FRAGILE.”

    Paintings Larger than 48’’ x 48’’
All works bigger than than 48’’ on any side must be packed into a wooden crate.

    1. Wearing cotton gloves, wrap the painting in archival tissue paper, avoiding direct contact with your hands. Fold four 8’’ x 8’’ square pieces of the same paper to create triangular pockets, and wrap the painting corners.
    2. Tape the paper corners to a foam board or thick cardboard to secure, and wrap with plastic sheeting or place in a waterproof plastic bag. Tape all openings, and wrap at least three times with bubble wrap.
    3. Place in wooden crate and seal.

How to Pack in a Crate
Crates are appropriate for any sculptures, large and/or fragile works.

    1. Measure the height, width, and depth of the pre-wrapped artwork with an extra 1/2’’ for the foam board lining, and approximately 3-4 inches for sculptures. Fill extra space with bubble wrap or shredded paper.
    2. Cut 4 pieces of plywood to build a frame with an opening using the measurements in Step 1. The lid must be easily unscrewed by the recipient.
    3. Assemble the 3 strips of plywood together, using screws and wood glue to create the box, and line inside with foam board using tape or glue. If using glue, wait for it to dry.
    4. Cut 2 sheets of plywood to make the front and back panel of the crate, and secure a sheet to the back of the frame with wood glue or screws.
    5. Place a piece of foam board inside the crate, and then your wrapped artwork inside. There should be no room for movement inside. Cover your work with another layer of foam board. Secure the remaining sheet from Step 4 on top.
    6. Clearly label the removable lid with “UNSCREW THIS SIDE ONLY.” Write additional instructions on the crate if necessary, and mark as FRAGILE with clear tape.
Recommended: Adding a handle to the crate eases transport.

    Framed Paintings

    1. Remove painting from the glass/acrylic frame, and apply 2 pieces of painter tape diagonally on the frame, forming a large ‘X’ shape to prevent shattering. Tape the glass between 2 pieces of foam board, that are 2 inches larger than the glass on all sides.
    2. Wrap painting in, archival tissue paper and then in plastic sheeting. Wrap all corners with paper triangles.
    3. Wrap the framed painting at least 3 times with bubble wrap. The cardboard box or custom crate should have 3 inches of extra space on all sides. Secure with packing tape.
If your painting is larger than 18’’ x 24’’, use a wooden crate. If smaller, then proceed to Step 4.
    4. Sandwich wrapped painting between 2 foam board sheets, and secure with tape. Place in cardboard box, and fill empty space with shredded paper and bubble wrap. Seal with packing tape.
    5. Label as FRAGILE with clear tape.

    Rolled canvas painting
All paintings that are larger than 72’’ x 72’’ must be carefully rolled and shipped in a heavy-duty mailing tube, that is 8’’ x 12’' diameter.

    1. Completely cover your canvas between 2 layers of acid free archival paper, and roll around the shape of the small tube. The painted side must face outwards. Take care as to not wrap too tightly to prevent damage.
    2. Wrap in bubble wrap and secure with tape. Then place into the larger mailing tube, filling empty spaces with bubble wrap. Place cap and seal.
    3. Label as FRAGILE with clear tape.
