Description
Oil painting, 1.2x1.5m. Texture of water was made by pouring and spilling turpentine and linseed oil to create cracked, yet fluid textures. The rest of the figure was rendered by referencing photos of myself submerged in a swimming pool (taken with the help of a friend). In this painting I wanted to convey how our emotional states are constantly in a cyclic flux, much like the rushing in and pulling away of water and the waves of the sea. The figure here is, paradoxically, simultaneously in calm and in chaos - it floats in silence but also drowns and suffocates in the chaos of waves. Here I experimented with the fragmentation and interaction of more than one figure to convey the tension and chaos more effectively but eventually settled on one figure as I wanted the water and figure to be focused on equally.

The content of this artwork is vibrant, but at the same time the style is extreme and the mood tragic.
