Similar to my other work, this painting's inspiration comes from emotions behind having invisible illnesses, such as chronic pain disorders like CRPS and fibromyalgia, chronic illnesses, and identifying oneself as a survivor rather than a victim. Darkest Before the Dawn is an intriguing mixed media painting as it becomes a portrait when viewed upside down, and returns to an organic abstract painting when viewed every other way (horizontally and as shown. This painting is at its darkest an abstract portrait and at its lightest an organic abstract monochrome painting.
This painting is one of the first fluid pieces of art where I experiment with the combination of fluid acrylics and mediums. Darkest Before the Dawn is a 16x20 inch acrylic based mixed media painting where I combined (black) polymer medium, flow aid, and string gel medium with fluid acrylics with chopsticks resulting in a fine three dimensional detailed layer of white paint.
