The bird represents the human spirit... how it can be happy and free and soar to endless possibilities... but is stopped by insecurities and fears.
We can either be free and happy or caged and defeated ( this choice is represented by there being no door on the cage ) but we are too fearful and indecisive... leading to a sore and regretful heart.
