I wanted to transcend viewers into the depths of the ocean with a sunken pirate ship while maintaining my whale theme I’ve used in past art. Drawing up a pirate ship from many reference pictures, I then transferred it onto the canvas where I painted a base layer in acrylic and added the depth and details in oil paint. There is contrast in value with a cool color scheme. The built up texture on the ship as well as the value add depth to the painting. I wanted to experiment with painting underwater scenes and painting this helped me gain skill in painting things realistically while maintaining my style.
