I started my process by layering frames, colonial elements, as a form of metaphor for the multifaceted discourses which influenced my identity as an artist.
I explored the historical and psychological phenomenon of what my identity signifies through a dialogue of images evoking the occupying influences—Spanish, American, Japanese, Korean, Chinese. I also depicted the images related to colonial education such as architecture, sciences, fine arts, childhood psyche, religion, cyber world. These elements draw attention to my cultural signifiers that each element is tattooed in me, however unwittingly. I view also depicted planes and lines as an expressive surface of connection, continuity and perspective. Beneath all the elements of the west, depicts the idea of indigenous thought which is continually suppressed brought out by modernity and socioeconomic status. Written on with tattoos, concealed under layers of imagery, or exploding outwards to reveal an inner world of fantasy and conflict.
