Also known as “the Fountain of Four Rivers", the fountain boasts four figures that represented four major rivers throughout the four major continents recognized during the 1600s: the figure in this painting represents The Nile of Africa – the sculptor decided to make this statue with his head covered by a piece of cloth, because at the time, the source of the Nile River was unknown.
