세계와 지성의 일치, 사물과 지성의 일치라는 인간 이성의 자신감과 실재론적 관념론이 ‘모방 예술’, ‘재현 예술’이었다. 하지만 ‘현대’라는 이념은 이러한 이성의 과한 자신감, 지성의 세계 포섭 능력, 구성 능력에 대한 불신과 회의가 있는 시대적 이념이다.
예술가는 이제 세계를 단순히 모방하여 재현해내는 것이 아닌 자의적이라 할지라도 창조해내야 하는 임무를 맡게 된 것이다.
낙서와 같은 이 그림 속엔 타인은 알 수 없지만 작가 개별자, 오로지 한 개인만이 이 그림에 대해 ‘무언가’를 알 수 있으며 감응할 수 있다. ‘잘 그린 그림’은 아니지만 작가는 어쩌면 이러한 ‘잘 그린 그림’의 기준, 이 기준의 강요에 대한 반발이자 단절일 수 있다.
