Hiraeth #2
Description
Hiraeth, a feeling of homesickness for something or somewhere that does not exist anymore or has never existed in the first place was always a word that struck a cord with me and a feeling that resonated through me and my nostalgia towards places I have never visited or have only seen as a result of other people's creative work, mixed with how rarely I am able to leave London I had to do something about it.
My love of art nudes and working with nude models and creative souls has always been something that I wanted to push into landscape work. It has taken years for me to develop the easy relationships and confidence needed to start putting things into action, not to mention months of planning and scraping the pennies together to try and make it happen.
In a break from my usual way of doing things and the long term nature of this project I have opted to keep this series open ended in reach and publish it as individual chapters and sets, each one self-contained and each image limited to a single fine art edition printed to the highest possible standard, signed and numbered as 1 of 1 and also provided with a certificate of authenticity to pair with the final image.
For the prints I have chosen to use a museum grade 315gsm cotton bright white print stock, coupled with Epson ultrachrome pigment inks prints will last well over a century or two in the right conditions and when handled with care.
Each print will be presented with a 1 inch art border around it, fully framed into a satin black deep box frame, gallery sealed and ready to hang on your wall. These are all hand printed by myself and can be signed either on the front or on the back of the print, I prefer to present my work without the clutter of a front facing signature but the choice is entirely yours.
Each set will also receive a full release separately available in self-printed folio-style edition collecting all of the images from each set in a leather covered snap shut spine around A3 gloss photographic prints presented in an open edition format. These folio releases will be limited to 100 copies and I hope to make them into quite a spectacular companion set to the entire project.
As an open ended project I plan on shooting with a large number of models across both the UK and the wider World to give a potentially life-long set of work that will cover landscapes, coasts, woodlands, rainforests, mountains and deserts.
I am accepting commissions with this project for location shoots around the world, feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss arranging something specific for you and we can chat about it.
The first shoot in the series features the most incredible lass I have ever had the pleasure to work with, Italian born, Irish hearted Valentina L'Abbate. We have now worked together a number of times and have built a close friendship and trust with each other as well as a great understanding of how we both work together.
Valentina and I decided to shoot in the Lake District of the UK over late March 2018, using my friends wonderful and famous pub "The Mortal Man" as our base of action to give us 4 days to shoot in the hills. Unseasonable weather had crashed into the UK a week before and we were lucky to be able to even shoot at all in the brief periods it was warm enough for either of us to brave the outdoors, the results are presented in the first set from my Hiraeth series and Valentina and I have planned a further shoot for June in Ireland.
Please note that by default stance I operate profit sharing with all of my models, all sales of our work go directly towards funding our art as well as towards paying our rent, covering travel and feeding us, all of the photographic pieces I create are a collaboration between myself and my models regardless of if they have had rates paid for their time or if they have kindly agreed to work for free.
