My daughter ,Erica had her first art show in 2018. Her work is mostly portrait, social or politically inspired. On this event she wore a red trench styled raincoat and a beautiful embroidered white blouse. She took a walk down the street in front of the studio. She was filled with joy and possibilities that night. The image contains some of her past work as a nod to her artistic experience. A photo by local photographer Corey Nxght was taken at that moment. He gave me permission to use the photograph as my inspiration. As I painted I started taking people and cars out of the image. It occurred to me that her life was a blank slate and her future lies ahead. It is both unknown and a blank slate as well. It's not a darkness to be feared rather a space to write her own future.
