Savages Are Not From The Wild

Savages Are Not From The Wild

Concept Notes:

"Savages Are Not From the Wild"

"Save the planet?
How can we so arrogant?
The planet is, was, & always will be stronger than us.
We can't destroy it: if we overstep the mark, the planet will simply erase us from its surface and carry on existing.
Why don't they start talking about not letting the planet destroy us?"
~Paulo Coehlo

My work portrays the conflicting realms between human and the ecology, existence & imbalance.
Whereas i created a feminine entity in bas relief sculpture as the spirit, the guardian of Earth: the giver, nurturer of all life forms. The ethereal entity lives in peace with fauna & flora marred skin as if it grows from her body and sheltering wild creatures in her care. The muted, neutral shaded space is disrupted by the emerging of painted winged bullets from different direction.
The "winged bullets are my icons for civilized men of contemporary society that mimic themselves as "social butterflies".
These social butterflies are all out camouflaged for personal gain & power which threatens imbalance & destroy beautiful creations.
"Savages Are Not From The Wild engages the audience into critical thinking about environmental awareness & enriching experiences about how it is to be human of his world or how is it to the mighty Earth, a world to its earthlings.
Exist or be extinct, there is more than meets the eye.

About the Creator

All of my works have evolved through the years of constant failures and succeeding. I love taking risks and experimenting different mediums and techniques such as working with fabric, collage, drawings, paintings, and my new found freedom, three-dimensional art such as bas relief. In my works, “Lifted” and “Savages Are Not from the Wild”, “Unleash”, "Inamorata" and "Gaia", I used an air dry modelling medium. And yes, it’s clay that kids use to manipulate and play with. I’d like to show to the world, that I seriously using this kiddie art material that greatly resulted in beautiful details in my painterly bas relief artworks.

I like working in minimal, experimental, and eclectic with few colors on a wide, quiet white space of my canvas. I don’t do plans, like drawing the subject first hand, but I just let my mind work directly on my artwork. I take inspirations from life’s reflections, my advocacies for healing our environment and myself as a woman. Art is also one of my effective tools for healing and overcoming depression.

I admire the works of a Filipina artist, Agnes Arellano for her wild, surreal life-size sculptures. Classical masters such as Michaelangelo and Johannes Vermmer for their realistic approach, domestic and naturalistic gestures on their works of art. Modern artists such as Frida Kahlo, Andrew Wyeth and Jean-Michel Basquiat for their sense of order, calm, playfulness and chaos. And last but not the least, my mentor, Spanish Artist Gines Serran-Pagan who taught me well about the universe, to be confident and fearless and to believe in the magic of my own artistic talent.

The vigorous contents of this artwork is well characterized through its crude style convincing the audience to experience the ephemeral emotion.

The artist has completed the sensual style by presenting critical contents with dreamy tone.
