a state of body/back pose
Description
A state of body is a drawing/ painting project investigating the position of female body in both fine art history and our contemporary times within the Arabic speaking region. It explores the sexuality, the temperament and the mental state of the portrayed figure. In an act of reclaiming space, the project challenges and troubles the male gaze. Previous chapters of this project included "Women in Black" (Beirut 2009), where female figures clad in black were portrayed in a way that menacingly reminds us of the gradual disappearance of female bodies from public space. Other chapters of the project included two exhibits in 2010 and in 2016, that deal with the sensorial depletion such figures are subjected to. The project series mourns the disappearance of female bodies, and brings a representation of it back on the flat painting surface, desolately staring back at us
