Description
For this piece I wanted to work with the primary colors to give it a simple and bold color palette. I used a palette knife to spread the colors in a fast, primal (hence the name) fashion. I didn't want it to be thought out or planned. I wanted the shape and strokes to be as spontaneous as the idea it's self. It's meant to have the feel of chaotic primal thought, which is why I poured paint straight from the tube directly on to the canvas without thought, shape, or form. After my paint was on the canvas I used the palette knife to bring life to the canvas with big, fast, dramatic strokes. Laid out on top of the color is a profile of a face, that is a contour drawing done with a large tip Molotow acrylic paint marker that starts at the center of the head, which is a squiggly , scattered, chaotic primal brain. I wanted to convey the color behind the chatic brain as part of the figures chatic mind and thought. I used the Molotow paint marker because I wanted the lines to be black, bold and clean. There's a bit of inspiration when it comes to that type of line work for me with Keith Haring. There's also a bit of Picasso when it comes to inspiration as well.
